BJP has planned to attract youth votes by fielding icons from various fields in 2014 general elections. BJP has asked Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly to contest in next general elections. Reportedly, Ganguly is received this offer from BJP Prime Ministerial Candidate Narendra Modi. A Bengali daily published this news and even Ganguly also confirmed the offer but not disclosed any further details.
Earlier also some yesteryear Cricketers like Navajot Singh Siddhu, Kirti Azad and Chetan Chauhan were elected as Parliament Members for a long time from BJP. Ganguly is still undecided on this offer. If he agreed for BJP proposal, he may not contest from native West Bengal. BJP may field Ganguly safe seat either from Delhi or Gujarat state.
West Bengal BJP unit also wants to Contest Ganguly from South Kolkata. Ganguly contest will be a major boost for BJP cadre in West Bengal. Ganguly had received the same offer from CPI(M) but he denied the offer. Narendra Modi also promised to make Ganuguly ministry for sports in his cabinet. Rumors of Ganguly joining politics has been making rounds soon after he met BJP WB observer Varun Gandhi in Delhi. It’s interesting to see Sachin and Sourav in Parliament.
