Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is adored by his fans all over the world as ‘God of Cricket’, is creating phenomenal records at box office just like what he used to do on cricket field.
‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’, a docudrama made on the former cricketer, has put up an unprecedented performance and collected around 27.60 crore in the opening weekend (10 crore on Sunday). The numbers are on par with those of medium range Bollywood heroes’ commercial films.
Considering that ‘A Billion Dreams’ was only a documentary, with no songs, comedy, dramatic presentation in the name of cinematic liberties or any commercial element for that matter, the film’s performance is exceptional. Documentaries generally have very limited audiences so the film’s huge success can be attributed to only one factor, Sachin’s name.
It is the first documentary to have got a mainstream release in India (in about 2400 screens). How well the film sustains in the week days will depend on how long Sachin can pull audiences to theatres.
