SC suggests name change for Alia’s Gangubai

In a big shock to the makers of Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, the Supreme Court on Wednesday suggested changing the name of the film, just two days ahead of its release on Friday, February 25, 2022.

The court has suggested this dealing with several cases pending before courts seeking to halt Gangubai Kathiawadi release.

The lawyer for Bhansali Productions informed the apex court today that he will seek directions from his client about the suggestion. The top court will continue hearing the matter tomorrow.

Gangubai Kathaiwadi, which is based on a real-life sex worker who rose to political prominence, is adapted from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai and stars Alia Bhatt in the title role.

Notably, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali had also landed in controversy while releasing his previous films, which were also changed the titles, including ‘Goliyon Ka Raasleela Ram-Leela’ and ‘Padmaavat’.
