Second Padma Award Likely for Sindhu

Ace shuttler and Olympic Silver medalist PV Sindhu is likely to win her second Padma award and bring further laurels to the Telugu States. On Monday, Union ministry of Sports recommended Sindhu for Padma Bhushan award, the 3rd highest civilian award in the country.

Sindhu, 22, was awarded India’s fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri award in 2015. She was conferred with the Khel Ratna award, the highest Indian award in the category of Sports by the Union government after winning Silver medal at 2016 Rio Olympic games.

Padma Bhushan honor will be another prestigious feather in her already heavily adorned cap. She is the 2nd athlete after cricketer MS Dhoni to have been nominated for Padma Bhushan this year.

Sindhu, after recently winning the Silver medal at the World Badminton Championships and the Korea Open Super Series title (first Indian shuttler to win the trophy in Korea), jumped to her career best World No.2 spot in the Badminton World Federation women’s singles rankings. She is undoubtedly enjoying the best phase of her career.

Recently, Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Sindhu as Group-1 officer in the government services and the Telangana government has presented her a hefty cash award and a piece of costly land for residential purpose in Hyderabad.
