Serbian professional tennis player Novak Djokovic showed the world his capability and entered the history books. Proving why he is a special player, the tennis player bagged his 23 grand slam title. He now has the highest number of titles and he even went past the legendary players. Over the years he bettered himself and he has been increasing his titles.
Djokovic scripted history on Sunday by adding one more title to his name. Before the match, he shared the record for the highest number of grand slam titles with 22 titles along with Rafael Nadal. In the edge of the seat thriller, Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5.
Djokovic developed an interest in the sport at an early age and he aimed at winning the Wimbledon title and be No 1 in the world. After entering the sport, he won the awards a few times. Usually, global tennis is dominated by legendary players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Be it the top position in the rankings or winning the titles, the two players have an edge over the other players. The two almost saw superstardom and success in the game. When the two are in top positions, Djokovic entered the sport and started seeing success.
In the last five years, Djokovic saw super success and kept on winning the titles. Five years back, he had just 12 titles to his name while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had 20 and 17 titles respectively. Cut to now, he emerged as the highest grand slam title winner of all time. Novak Djokovic also emerged as the only tennis player to win all four grand slams three times.
Djokovic started his journey with Tennis with a bang at an early age. When he was 20 he won the prestigious 2008 Australian Open award and he disrupted the massive streak of 11 consecutive majors of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic’s legacy is such that he, Federer, and Nadal are regarded as the Big Three.
Speaking after winning the record grand slam title, Djokovic said that he is seeing this as more than a fortune to be able to win the titles 23 times and this is nothing sort of incredible. “Every single player dreams of being on this stage and winning the trophy at least once in their career. I’m beyond fortunate in my life to win 23 times, it’s an incredible feeling,” he said.
