Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the renowned Bollywood director known for his grandiose films, is reportedly making his way to Hollywood. The director has reportedly made a deal with the Hollywood agency WME (William Morris Endeavour) to represent him and his production company, Bhansali Productions.
Bhansali has gained fame in the Hindi film industry for his epic tales, lavish production values, mesmerizing music, and stunning cinematography. Some of his notable films include Devdas, Bajirao Mastani, Padmavaat, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
The WME agency represents some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Matt Damon, Kate Beckinsale, Christian Bale, Jessica Alba, and Ben Affleck. Bhansali’s move to work with the agency comes after he attempted to launch a worldwide awards campaign for his latest film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, which premiered internationally at the Berlin Film Festival.
Bhansali’s foray into Hollywood is reminiscent of another Indian director, SS Rajamouli, who gained global recognition with his blockbuster hit, Baahubali. Rajamouli also signed with WME and made his way to Hollywood, where he is currently working on a project with Marvel Studios.
With Bhansali’s unique aesthetic and vision, it will be exciting to see what he brings to Hollywood and how he adapts to a different industry.
