Somu Veerraju, the AP BJP president is all set to lose his MLC status. His term is coming to an end on May 31. He is among the three MLCs whose term is coming to an end. The other two are – council’s chairperson Mohammed Ahmed Sharief and YSRCP’s DC Govind Reddy. All the three seats are likely to go into the YSRCP kitty.
With this, Somu Veerraju will have just party’s president’s post and no other position. With the BjP performing very poorly, the BJP national leadership does not appear to have a very favourable view of Veerraju. Now Veerraju has to prove himself as a leader and build the party from the scratch. The recent Tirupati bypoll and the elections to the local bodies has shown that the party is light years away from becoming an alternative to the ruling YSRCP. The party is also unable to wipe off the negativity surrounding AP’s special status issue and the steel plant privatisation issue. Veerraju is unable to do anything to salvage the situation.
Now that his MLC status will be gone, will he dedicate himself full-time for the party work? Will he tour the length and breadth of the state to mobilise support for the party? Will he work to strengthen the party and build a pro-BJP narrative? Let’s wait and see!!
