Wanted terrorist and the mastermind behind the series of terrorist attacks in Mumbai dubbed as 26/11 Mumbai terror attack who was arrested in early January was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.The anti-terrorism court in Lahore which heard the petition pertaining to the terror attacks sentenced 15 years of jail imprisonment to Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi on the charges of terror financing.
After the Mumbai terror attack, Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi was proscribed as a terrorist by the United Nations. He was on a bail in the terror attack case since 2015.Based on the information, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province arrested Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi on Saturday.
The News Agency PTI quoted a court official as saying, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore hearing the case sentenced 15 years imprisonment for Lakshvi under various sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.It has to be noted that a Pakistan court slapped Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar with an arrest warrant. The warrant was issued on the charges of terror financing.
All these developments took place ahead of the much-awaited review meeting of the intergovernmental organisation Financial Action Task Force.The Financial Action Task Force meeting will be held in February 2021 to discuss the demand of including Pakistan in the grey list on the grounds of misuse of funds for acts of terrorism.
