Supreme Court slams Centre for its Vaccination Policy for 18-44

The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Centre over its irrational vaccination policy for giving free vaccination to the 45-plus age group and a having paid system for those below.

Showing several other faults in terms of scarcity of vaccine doses of its approachability by rural people, the court asked the BJP government to analyse its vaccination policy and make a proper plan for the projected availability of vaccines till 31 December 2021.

A special SC bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, LN Rao and S Ravindra Bhat stated ordered the Centre to submit detailed information on all Coronavirus vaccines bought by the government to date, including Covaxin, Covishield, and Sputnik V.

The data should include: (a) the dates of all Central government acquisition orders for all three vaccinations; (b) the number of vaccines ordered as of each date; and (c) the expected date of supply, according to the Court.

The apex court has also sought information from the Centre over the policy on how and when the vaccination to the remaining population will be completed.
