Tamil Nadu extends Covid-19 lockdown till June 14


Amid rising Covid-19 infections in the state, the Tamil Nadu Government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced the extension of lockdown in the state till June 14. The decision to extend the curbs comes a day after the CM organized a meeting with top officials.

However, the government has added some more relaxations to the curfew rules in the latest extension. The state is now implementing two sets of relaxations for 11 districts having a low positivity rate and more relaxation in all other districts.

The 11 districts are Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.

Notably, Tamil Nadu is among the top five states reporting the high Coronavirus cases in India. In the last 24 hours, the state registered the highest cases in the country and it alone handles 18.79 percent of the fresh cases in the country.
