There are many male stars in Indian cinema. But the count of lady superstars in showbiz is very less. Sridevi is regarded as a star who brought stardom for heroines and she is dubbed as the first female superstar. During her peaks, she received remuneration on par with big stars.
Sridevi had an inspirational journey. She started her career as a child actor and later turned into a heroine. In her first film as a heroine, she acted alongside happening stars like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. Sridevi’s original name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyappa. Film critics say they will not be another Sridevi in the industry given the super success and stardom she saw.
Sridevi decided to be a housewife after tying the knot with Boney Kapoor. It took around 15 years for her to make a comeback. She made a stunning comeback with critically acclaimed English Vinglish. The film recently celebrated 10 years of theatrical release.
On this special occasion, director Gauri Shinde said that the sarees Sridevi wore in the films would be auctioned and the money would be used for girls’ education. An NGO which is working on this will be selected and the money will be gone to the organisation.
“We are auctioning the sarees Sridevi wore as Shashi in the film. I would like to use it for girls’ education NGO. I always wanted to do this, but it never happened. I thought now, this would be the most befitting,” Gauri Shinde said.
The makers kept the sarees safely and it would be a good tribute to the legendary actress. Sridevi was involved in many charities and auctioning the sarees she wore n her comeback film would be appropriate. Moreover, the money would be given to girls’ education NGO.
