Telangana got Rs 1.60 lakh cr from Centre in 6 yrs!

The Telangana state has received nearly Rs 1.60 lakh crore from the Central government in the last six years, including devolution of funds and under centrally sponsored schemes.

This was revealed by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman in her written reply to Congress MP from Bhongir Komatireddy Venkat Reddy during the question hour in Lok Sabha on Monday.

According to Nirmala, the Centre had transferred an amount of Rs 85,013 crore to Telangana under devolution of tax share in the last six years.

Under States Disaster Relief Fund, it had released another Rs 1,289.40 crore.

Towards various grants for the local bodies, the Centre released Rs 6,511 crore. For the backward districts, another Rs 1,916 crore was released towards special grant.

For the rural development works, an amount of Rs 3,853 crore was released to the state, the minister siad.

Apart from this, a massive amount of Rs 51,298.84 crore was released towards grants-in-aid and implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes.

Besides, an amount of Rs 1500.54 crore was paid to the Women Development and Child Welfare schemes.

The Union finance minister pointed out that the Telangana which was a revenue surplus state in 2014, has been indulging in indiscriminate borrowings since then.

The debt burden has mounted to over Rs 2 lakh crore at present.
