The tragedy at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh where over 60 infant deaths were reported earlier this month allegedly because of Oxygen shortage, has struck again.
As per reports, 42 children have died in the last 3 days in the same hospital, which is the biggest in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s home base Gorakhpur.
Some children are learnt to have died due to encephalitis, some infants died in the hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit and other reasons have been cited by Dr PK Singh, the recently-appointed working principal of the college hospital for other deaths.
When 60 children died within a week’s time at the hospital earlier this month, the UP government drew scathing criticism from the Opposition parties as well as media. When opposition leaders rushed to the city to learn the ground reality, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath jibed saying that Gorakhpur was not a picnic spot for everyone to come. The state government also stressed that the deaths were not caused due to Oxygen shortage but various diseases.
