When it comes to heroes like Ayushman Khurana in Bollywood, he picks up interesting scripts and mesmerises audiences. Whether it is Vicky Donor or Andhadhun, he always left the mark. And now, ‘Article 15’ adds another feather to his cap.
Director Anubhav Sinha of “Mulk” fame has come up with a gripping and hard-hitting story on ‘caste’ system in Northern parts of India through “Article 15” where Ayushman plays the role of an investigation officer. The film is reportedly based on the 2014 Badaun rape case, where two girls were allegedly gang-raped and killed over a caste-based dispute. For the kinds of news we’re reading every day, surely the film sounds like a need of the hour.
Especially the scene in the trailer where all the police constables differentiate themselves basing on their castes is a hair-raising one, as everyone understands how discrimination got deeply rooted in the minds of many Indians. Netizens are showering the trailer with huge appreciation.
Set for June 28 release, one wonders if ‘Article 15’ will get a Censor Certificate for the kind of references they made to the caste system. For the uninitiated, Article 15 (1) and (2) prohibit the state from discriminating any citizen on the grounds of any religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them.
