The ruling TRS has announced its first list of candidates for GHMC polls on Friday, while other parties continues to drag on the process. TRS announced candidates for 60 municipal divisions out of total 150 seats in GHMC. With 50 per cent of the total 150 seats reserved for women in GHMC elections, those male leaders who lost opportunity to contest the poles have ensured tickets for their wives in their place in the first list.
The TDP-BJP combine failed to finalise the candidates as both the parties are yet to reach an understanding over seat sharing. While BJP has been demanding to share 50:50 seats, the TDP leaders have been objecting saying that TDP has more chances to win in majority of the seats than BJP. The Congress, though has no political alliance with any other party, too failed to announce the list so far with no consensus over candidates list among top Congress leaders.
With January 17 being the last date to file nominations, all the parties are forced to announce their lists on Saturday. There is tough competition for seats in all the parties forcing parties to delay the lists fearing backlash from other candidates who fail to get tickets and defections.
