Upset IPS officer going on long leave?

The decision of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer N Balasubrahmanyam to go on a long leave from the services in Andhra Pradesh raised many an eyebrow.

Balasubrahmanyam is learnt to have applied for long leave – from March 4 this year to July 31, 2021 (515 days) on personal grounds. And his leave has been accepted by the Andhra Pradesh government.

Apparently, Balasubrahmanyam mentioned in his leave letter that he was going to the United States of America for personal reasons. The government also granted him permission to go abroad.

The 1994-batch IPS officer was the transport commissioner during the Telugu Desam Party regime.

After Jagan came to power, Balasubrahmanyam was shifted as in-charge of e-Pragathi programme and then made chief executive officer of Real Time Governance Society. Recently, he was shifted as additional director general of Railway Police.

Apparently, the IPS officer was upset with the loop line postings he had been given in the new government.

Sources said he had realised that he might not fit into the scheme of things in the new government and hence, it would be better to go on leave. He might extend his leave, if necessary, sources said.

Perhaps this is the first time that an IPS officer has gone on long leave for more than a year at a time. Let us see what exactly is the reason behind this decision.
