Noted Telugu actor, writer Gollapudi Maruthi Rao (80) passed away in Chennai. He was unwell since quite some time and breathed his last in Lifeline Hospitals at Chennai due to age-related aliments on Thursday December 12th, 2019.
Born on April 14th, 1929 in Vijayanagaram,Gollapudi was a prolific screenwriter, dramatist, playwright, theatre actor and dialogue writer. He was well known for his works in Telugu cinema and had acted in more than 250 films and his last film was in ‘Jodi’ which featured Sai Kumar’s son Aadi in the lead.
He made his entry into films with Chiranjeevi’s film ‘’Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya’’ at the age of 40 years.
The film directed by Kodi Rama Krishna catapulted both the hero and Gollapudi into fame and stardom.He went on to essay varied roles as a villain, character artist, comedy, father roles and unique style of portraying villain-ism with a touch of comedy.
He was also seen an ageing politician in Rana Daggubati’s debut film ‘’Leader”” directed by Shekhar Kammula.
Telugu stars expressed their condolences and and took to Twitter to offer their respects to the senior actor.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his condolences over Gollapudi Maruthi Rao’s death.
