According to the claims of the Andhra Pradesh govt. the ‘People First’ scheme that was launched in the state to fight corruption, has been doing wonders.
The scheme facilitates people to get back the bribe they had paid for availing of any government service in AP. One just have to dial 1100 and file a grievance. There is a high possibility of the corrupt government servant who took the bribe, may come knocking on your door to return the bribe amount.
In the wake of a recent nation-wide survey that ranked AP the second most corrupt state, the Chandrababu Naidu regime launched the ‘People First’ grievance redressal scheme on May 25 in its effort to eradicate corruption. Now, the CM himself claimed that the scheme was being utilized very well by people and that he had received positive feedback from officials.
However, a senior bureaucrat reportedly said that the govt. can’t assure the bribes taken will be returned in every case. He also added that the govt. can’t act upon the officials just based on some random complaint and thorough inquiries will have to be performed, which is a cumbersome process. He however said that the initiative can intimidate the govt. servants from taking bribes.
