The ruling TRS has come out with a strange election slogan for Narayankhed Assembly bypoll in Medak district, to be held in February. Irrigation minister T Harish Rao, who has been entrusted the bypoll responsibility, has been giving this slogan to attract voters. The slogan says, “If you want marriage, vote for TRS”.
The reason cited by Harish Rao for this slogan is that due to severe drinking water problem in Narayankhed constituency, several young boys in this constituency remain unmarried so far as fathers of daughters are not willing to perform marriages of their daughters with grooms here and send them to Narayankhed fearing water problem.
Harish held Congress responsible for this situation saying that despite winning this seat for decades, the Congress failed to provide even minimum water supply to the constituency. He said if TRS wins this seat, it will ensure drinking water supply every through water grid project by providing tap connection to each and every household.
Harish has been requesting young boys and their parents to vote for TRS if they want to see their boys getting married. It remains to be seen how this ‘marriage sentiment’ would work out for TRS in the end which all these years is dependent on “Telangana sentiment”.
