Star Hollywood heroines like Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Rosamund Pike, Kate Winslet, Eva Mendes, Megan Fox, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Naomi Watts and the list goes on- all these beauties are still ruling the roost alongside unmarried divas like Jennifer Hudson and Kristen Stewart. And surprisingly most of the above said star heroines do have 2-3 children as well. So, what’s wrong with Indian films that we won’t find married heroines with children as leading ladies?
Recently when Star hero Shahrukh Khan was interacting with media to promote “Raees”, people asked him, when married women who has even 3-4 children could continue as heroines in Hollywood, why Indian heroines don’t enjoy similar situation here? He stated this as a phenomenon called ‘catering to market demand’ and underlined that people are desiring to see only unmarried beauties as their leading ladies. But one fails to understand what that ‘demand’ exactly means as people want only unmarried girls as heroines.
Either it has to be that way that Indian movie lovers (mostly men) don’t want to see married women on screen because they can’t fantasise a romance with her in the shoes of a hero. Or we have to call the whole film industry as male chauvinistic society where they accept married men as Star Heroes but not Married Women as star heroines.
Probably it’s high time both film celebs, filmmakers and audiences see an actor as an actor, whether it’s female or male, and their marital status got nothing to do with it.
