After the canceling of the half ticket scheme for children above 5 years to 12 years age group recently, the Indian Railways has now unleashed its fury on its middle and upper middle class passengers. The Indian Railways increased the charges for Tatkal tickets for the AC and General passengers.

The hiked Tatkal charges will come into effect from December 25 and the Railways ministry claims that this hike is only with an aim to improve passenger revenue collections.

From December 25, AC coach passengers have to shell out a maximum of Rs 400 to a minimum of Rs 300 as tatkal charges as against the present Rs 350 maximum and Rs 250 minimum charges respectively.

In 2nd AC, passengers will now pay Rs 500 maximum and Rs 400 minimum towards tatkal booking charges as against the present charges of Rs 400 and Rs 300 for maximum and minimum charges respectively.

Also, the Sleeper class passengers will have to shell out Rs 200 instead of Rs 175 earlier. The maximum and minimum charges are calculated based on the travel distance. The Tatkal booking charges for Second Class sitting have not been changed and remain same at Rs 15 and Rs 10 as maximum and minimum charges respectively.
