RRR scripted history by winning the Gloden Globe Award for Naatu Naatu song. The award is very special as the song became the first Asian song to do so. When Naatu Naatu was announced as the winner of the award, wishes started pouring in for Music director Keeravani and the rest of the team of the magnum opus.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also wished the team and mentioned that the Telugu flag is flying high with the victory. The #Telugu flag is flying high! On behalf of all of #AndhraPradesh, I congratulate @mmkeeravaani, @ssrajamouli, @tarak9999, @AlwaysRamCharan and the entire team of @RRRMovie. We are incredibly proud of you! #GoldenGlobes2023,” Jagan tweeted.
But Bollywood singer Adnan Sami did not like Jagan using the Telugu flag term in his tweet and said that RRR’s award is a pride of the nation and mentioning a particular identity will talk about the separatist ideology. He even mentioned the 1947 division of Pakistan in his tweet.
But the YCP Ministers did not like the tweet of the singer and they said that there is nothing wrong with what the Chief Minister said and that taking pride in Telugu identity is not wrong.
But the issue is that RRR is a Pan-India film and was loved by the whole of India. Only after the sensation, the film created in India RRR was released in OTT. Post the OTT release the oscar demand started and it helped in the campaign for the prestigious award.
If RRR would have been released as a Telugu film then the sensation would have not been at this level. In overseas RRR set the box office on fire and saw big collections in America and Japan. So these issues also played a big impact. The Pan-India release is also said to be the main reason behind the American OTT platform Netflix buying the Hindi rights for a huge amount.
Netflix buying RRR is a game-changer and the Western audiences got to know about the film. The west still sees RRR as an Indian film but not as a Telugu film.
