Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Venkaiah Naidu, slammed a section of people and the media for glorifying and sympathizing with the recently executed Bombay blasts convict Yakub Menon. Venkaiah said that those who protested against Yakub’s hanging in the name of removing must clarify if they want reservations in death sentences as well.
Slamming the sympathy shown towards Yakub by certain media houses, Venkaiah questioned how can the media air news of what Yakub ate and wore and many such sympathetic shows, by conveniently forgetting his gory crimes which resulted in the loss of 257 innocent lives. The senior politician also suggested that Yakub’s death sentence must be seen in victims point of view.
Calling for nationwide unity against terrorism, Venkaiah says that terrorist must not be viewed through the prism of religion and that a terrorist has no religion. Venkaiah also rubbished the allegations of only a particular community faced capital punishment more and stated that he doesn’t want to name the convicts but there have been death sentences awarded to criminals from other communities as well.
