All hell broke lose after Dhanush put a Rs 10 crore copyright strike on Netflix for using a 3-second BTS clip from Naanum Rowdy Thaan featuring Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan. This triggered a serious reaction from Nayanthara who questioned the moral values of Dhanush for making a meal of such a topic.

However, the more interesting point here is that the actresses who worked with Dhanush earlier have posted in support of this update from Nayanthara.

The likes of Nazriya Naazim, Anupama Parameswaran, Aishwarya Rajesh, Manjima Mohan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi have expressed support to Nayanthara’s social media post. They are all evidently standing against Dhanush on this matter.

Had it been one or two actresses who earlier worked with Dhanush who expressed solidarity with Nayanthara, it would have been different. But the fact that several actress have come forward to dissent on Dhanush has become a hot topic in itself. What is the reason for so many actresses to diss Dhanush at once on this sensitive topic?

South Korea says North Korea is ‘crossing line’ with trash balloon campaign

South Korea’s military on Monday condemned North Korea for “crossing the line” with its continued sending of trash-carrying balloons to the South and warned that all responsibility lies with the North.

“North Korea’s actions are crossing the line. We once again sternly warn that all responsibility for situations to follow lies within the North,” Joint Chiefs of Staff deputy spokesperson Colonel Nam Gi-su said in a statement, Yonhap news agency reported.

“Do not further test our military’s patience,” he said.

The statement came as North Korea has sent more than 7,000 balloons carrying trash across the border since late May in retaliation against anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets sent across the border by activists in the South.

North Korea resumed the balloon campaign following a three-week hiatus early Monday. In last month’s launch, some of the balloons, which included leaflets criticising President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee, landed in the presidential compound.

Several prominent Pakistani think tanks, policymakers and top government officials have been forced to re-strategise their position and reassess the terms of their relationship with the United States under the incoming Trump administration.Trump has already announced several names of his new Cabinet with key positions, giving an indirect message to Islamabad that it may not be on his priority list in comparison to New Delhi.

The list includes Secretary of Defence, State, National Security Advisor and the CIA chief who have been critical of Pakistan in the past and have had a more considerate view of India.

Pakistani policymakers are keeping a close eye on Trump’s choices, indicating the future foreign policy of the US administration. It is believed that Pakistan may not be on the priority list of Trump administration and the US foreign policy.

Senator Marvo Rubio, who has been nominated as the next US Secretary of State, had introduced a bill that supported India and rang alarm bells in Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The ‘US-India Defense Cooperation Act’ introduced in the Senate by Rubio called for an extended defence cooperation with India to tackle the increasing influence of China in the region. The bill proposed that India should be treated at par with allies, including Japan, Israel, South Korea and NATO, on technology transfers. It also suggested that New Delhi should be provided with security assistance through collaboration in defence, technology, economic investments and civil space.

Rubio’s proposed bill also mentioned Pakistan’s involvement in sponsoring terrorism against India through various proxy groups, suggesting that Islamabad should not be provided with any US security assistance.

The other important pick by Donald Trump is Mike Waltz, nominated as the National Security Advisor. Waltz has also been critical of Pakistan in the past, calling for putting more pressure on Islamabad to eliminate cross-border terrorism.

Trump’s Cabinet nomination also includes Tulsi Gabbard for the key post of US National Intelligence Director. Tulsi had not only backed India during the February 2019 stand-off between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack but also has been vocal about Islamabad harbouring Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, who was killed in a US Navy Seals operation in Abbottabad, back in 2011.

John Ratcliffe, who is going to head the CIA, has served as the Director of US National Intelligence during Trump’s first term and is known to keep a hawk’s eye on Iran and China.

Analysts reckon that all the significant nominations made by Trump do not augur well for the US-Pak relationship going forward. They foresee that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government will face a major challenge at the hands of the Trump administration.

Last week, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir said that Islamabad would not become part of any bloc in any conflict, a statement that experts believe is an indirect message to the incoming Trump administration.

Government sources also revealed that it has already started reaching out to Trump’s team and is working towards establishing early contacts with the incoming administration.

Authorities warn bushfire in southern Australia could continue burning for weeks

Authorities warned on Monday that a bushfire in Australia that has destroyed at least one home could continue burning for several weeks.The bushfire near the town of Kadnook, over 300 km west of Melbourne, was one of several that ignited in southern Australia amid hot and windy conditions on Saturday, forcing evacuations of residents across the western part of the state of Victoria.

At least one home was destroyed by the fire and authorities believe two more may have burnt down in addition to agricultural losses.

The situation eased on Sunday night as temperatures dropped and some rain fell in the area but a “watch and act” warning remained in place on Monday, with residents told it is not yet safe to return.

Local mayor Tim Meyer said on Monday that the fast-moving fire caught locals by surprise on Saturday.

“It’s been a horrifying weekend and it’s been really tough,” he told Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television. “That might burn for several weeks yet.”

Strike teams were on Monday deployed to the area to relieve fire crews who spent the weekend containing the blaze and authorities are investigating whether the fire was deliberately lit.

Mark Gunning from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) said that investigators are currently treating it as suspicious.

Anyone who is convicted of intentionally or recklessly causing a bushfire in Victoria can be sentenced to up to 15 years in jail, Xinhua news agency reported

A second fire near the Great Ocean Road, a major tourist drawcard along Victoria’s southwest coast, was on Monday downgraded after residents were on Sunday advised to leave the area.

New Zealanders lost nearly 200 million NZ dollars ($117.3 million) to scammers last year, as online financial scams are a growing problem for the country, according to government statistics released on Monday.

Considering estimates suggest that only one in five scams are reported, the real losses to New Zealanders are significantly higher, said Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Andrew Bayly, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The fast-evolving nature of digital technology and the complexity of online scams, with most originating offshore, means that scam detection, prevention and response has largely fallen between the cracks of industry and government,” Bayly said.

With the launch of Fraud Awareness Week, the government is committing to new coordination efforts across industry and government to combat online scams, such as improving information sharing between telecommunications and banks, developing industry-led solutions within specific sectors including banks, and engaging with Australia and Singapore to establish a coordinated regional approach.

Nigerian military kills scores of bandits in airstrikes: Official

Scores of bandits have been killed in airstrikes in the Nigerian northwestern state of Zamfara, a top official has confirmed.The airstrikes took place on Friday in the village of Babban Kauye in the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara, where the suspected bandits were located, said Olusole Akinboyewa, the spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, Xinhua news agency reported.

The airstrikes by the military were aimed at eliminating bandit threats in the northwestern part of Nigeria, the spokesman said.

Intelligence sources revealed that the criminals have planned to attack military personnel or civilians, he said.

The operation dealt “a severe blow to their operational capacity of the bandits,” he added.

Days after actress Nayanthara accused Dhanush of demanding Rs 10 crore for alleged copyright infringement involving her Netflix documentary, the actor’s legal team has issued a strong statement.

Dhanush’s lawyer has threatened legal action if the contentious content, which reportedly infringes on his copyright of the film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan”, is not removed within 24 hours. The statement reads, “Advice your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan by using the same in your client’s documentary named Nayanthara Beyond the Fairytale within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs. 10 crores against your client and Netflix India.”

The actor’s lawyer also refuted Nayanthara’s claim that the disputed content was simply behind-the-scenes footage captured on personal phones.

The statement further read, “My client is the producer of the film and they know where they have spent each penny for the production of the film. Your client has stated that my client has not commissioned any person to shoot the behind-the-scenes footage and the said statement is baseless. Your client is put to strict proof of the same.”

For the unversed, on November 16, the ‘Jawan’ actress posted an open letter on Instagram wherein she criticized Dhanush for stooping to “an all-time low” after he demanded a compensation of Rs 10 crore from her. The demand stemmed from a 3-second clip from Nayanthara’s film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan”, produced by Dhanush, which was used in the docuseries trailer.

An excerpt from Nayanthara’s lengthy letter read, “What’s even more shocking is your legal notice after the release of the trailer of the Netflix Documentary. We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds) which were shot in our personal devices and that too BTS visuals that are already very much publicly present on social media and claimed a sum of Rs.10 crores as damages for the mere 3 seconds. This is an all time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans but clearly you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.”

Former Minister RK Roja has accused the government of filing false cases against those who have done no wrong. She recalled that when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was the Chief Minister, the I-TDP (Indian Telugu Desam Party) had posted derogatory content. Bhumana also accused the government of taking extreme actions by filing cases and subjecting innocent people to harassment. He said many of these offensive posts were the result of the I-TDP, and the party had already filed complaints against them. He demanded that the police provide a receipt copy to those who filed complaints at the police station and condemned the ill-treatment of their party members. He also called for legal action against the perpetrators.

Speaking to the media, former Minister Roja condemned the filing of false cases against innocent people in Andhra Pradesh. She pointed out that the police were attacking social media activists and criticized the government for ruling the state like a dictatorship, comparing it to the regimes of Hitler and Gaddafi.

Roja questioned the actions taken by the coalition government regarding the disappearance of women during the tenure of Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan. She referred to the misleading propaganda that during the YSRCP rule, thousands of women and young people went missing. However, the truth came out in the Assembly, where it was revealed that only 36 individuals were actually missing, as confirmed by the Home Minister.

Actor Rana Daggubati, who is known for ‘Arrambam’, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, ‘Baby’, ‘Housefull 4’ and others, has shared his insights on the Indian entertainment industry’s eternal problem of a diminishing screen count.Rana spoke with IANS ahead of the release of ‘All We Imagine as Light’ which won the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

Rana, who is presenting the film to the audience across the country, told IANS, “India is definitely very very underscreened. In terms of the number of screens it has, 14, 000 is a very large number. India has only about 6000-8000 working screens, the rest are all diminishing in many ways. Out of which, a large part of it is in Andhra and Telangana, the areas that I live in.

He further mentioned, “But no, we just feel like it can be much more. Screens for different kinds of people, and the number of people that are around”.

He then pointed toward the axel that drives the problem of screen count: India’s real estate market.

The actor told IANS, “It would solve that problem but India’s real estate is not as cheap as the rest of the world. We have less land, and many people unlike the USA or China which have much more land mass than us. We can build many more things. So that would change. But it’s like a chicken and egg. Look at the cinemas now. Every festival we are over full”.

“And we feel like there is no space for new films. But the rest of the year as exhibitors. We just sit idle because there is no film. It’s that trick that we are falling in, I just feel like. Unless exhibitors also know that there is more cinema that they can play, different types of audience that they can reach out to, different types of marketing techniques, that they can start exploring”, he added.

‘All We Imagine as Light’ is set to arrive in cinemas in India on November 22.

This week, several new movies and web series are set to release on various OTT platforms. After the disappointing performance of last week’s releases, “Kanguva” and “Matka”, audiences are eagerly waiting for fresh content.

On the silver screen, movies include “Mechanic Rocky,” “Roti Kapada Romance,” “Zebra,” and “KCR.”.

This week, the OTT platforms are coming with an exciting lineup of 34 new movies and web series. Expected in the Telugu version are “Kishkinda Kandam” and Nayanthara’s documentary “Beyond the Fairy Tale”. Rana Daggubati’s talk show is also a part of it, apart from quite a few Hindi and English movies and web series.
