Karan Johar’s Twins Spark Conversations About Surrogacy and Family

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has ignited a heartwarming discussion on surrogacy and family dynamics. In a recent interview, Johar revealed his twins, Yash and Roohi, born via surrogacy in 2017, have begun asking questions about their biological mother, such as “Whose stomach was I born in?”

This honest inquiry from his children highlights the complexities of explaining non-traditional family structures to young minds. Johar, a single father by choice, openly shared his journey in his autobiography, “An Unsuitable Boy,” expressing his desire for parenthood and his unwavering love for his twins. He co-parents Yash and Roohi with his mother, Hiroo Johar.

While Johar himself faces online trolling, he is pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of love and support his children receive on social media. Positive comments about Yash and Roohi are a testament to the evolving societal acceptance of alternative family models.

Johar’s decision to embrace surrogacy follows a trend among celebrities like Aamir Khan, Ekta Kapoor, and Tusshar Kapoor. His openness sheds light on the practical and emotional aspects of surrogacy, sparking conversations about navigating this path to parenthood.

As Yash and Roohi grow older, Johar will undoubtedly face challenges in explaining their unique origins. However, his willingness to share his story and his children’s curiosity pave the way for greater understanding and acceptance of surrogacy. Ultimately, Johar’s experience underscores the importance of open communication within these families and the need for a supportive social environment.

Musk again rakes up EVM issue before US elections, X users not convinced

0

San Francisco, July 9 (IANS) Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday again raked up the electronic voting machine (EVM) issue before the US presidential elections in November, vouching for paper ballots and in-person voting mechanisms.

In a post on X social media platform, the tech billionaire said, “EVMs and anything mailed in is too risky”.

“We should mandate paper ballots and in-person voting only,” said the X owner, displaying some US-based news stories about EVMs.

However, not many X users supported his theory.

“On the contrary, paper ballots are easily manipulated through booth capturing. EVMs with factory-embedded programmes cannot be hacked easily and must be used,” said an X user.

In an earlier post, Musk claimed that when combined with main-in ballots, the system is “designed” to make it impossible to prove fraud.

“Mail-in and drop box ballots should not be allowed, as cameras on the in-person voting stations would at least prevent large-scale fraud by counting how many people showed up vs ballots cast,” the billionaire argued.

Last month, Musk and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar had a tug-of-war on X regarding EVMs.

When Chandrasekhar told the tech billionaire that Indian EVMs are custom-designed, secure and isolated from any network or media, the Tesla CEO replied: “Anything can be hacked”.

“Electronic voting machines can be architected and built right as India has done. We would be happy to run a tutorial, Elon,” Chandrasekhar replied to the tech billionaire.

Musk had reacted to Puerto Rico’s primary elections which allegedly experienced voting irregularities.

Amid raging controversy over Musk’s EVM claim, Shiv Sena MP and former Union Minister Milind Deora said Silicon Valley’s Big Tech billionaires should not meddle in India’s democracy.

IIT Madras, Tel Aviv Univ, KMCH-Research Foundation to offer water quality course

0

Chennai, July 8 (IANS) The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has partnered with Tel Aviv University, Israel and KMCH-Research Foundation (KMCH-RF), Coimbatore, to offer a water quality course aimed at creating water-literate citizens, an official statement said on Monday.

According to IITM, the four-month course, in hybrid mode through the NPTEL online platform, is for final-year science and engineering students, and anyone with a technical background interested in water quality.

The course organisers are working towards building a water map of India and the world by students, who will contribute to building water literacy.

After a detailed introduction to fundamental aspects of water quality, students will conduct practical tests including surveys. They will receive a certificate upon completion which may be credited as part of their degree programme via their institution, IITM said.

Welcoming everyone interested in preserving water quality to take this course, Prof. Thalappil Pradeep, of the Department of Chemistry, IITM, said: “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations is possible only when people understand the reasons that limit their realisation. Water quality is one such aspect. This course will build reliable water quality data by people which will also make them water-literate. The course is part of an initiative to train water professionals for the world.”

The course has been designed based on a pilot study done during the last summer in different places across Tamil Nadu (such as Chennai and Erode, among others) involving college students. The data from this endeavour was collated to create online data on water quality with spatial coordinates, and inputs from surveys.

What Can We Expect From Rajamouli On Mahesh’s Birthday?

The pairing of S.S. Rajamouli, the visionary director behind “Baahubali” and “RRR,” with Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has cinephiles across India buzzing with excitement. However, unlike other highly anticipated projects, the wait isn’t just for the film’s release, but for its official launch.

This dream collaboration has been in the works for over a decade, ever since Rajamouli first met Babu. While Rajamouli embarked on directing the epic “Baahubali” franchise and the blockbuster “RRR,” fans eagerly awaited the green light for their project with Babu.

Details remain scarce, with the only official confirmation being a globetrotting adventure drama genre. Much like Rajamouli’s previous ventures, the script development process has been meticulous, and pre-production has been underway for several months. Reports suggest workshops are being conducted, with veteran actor Nasser reportedly coaching the cast on dialects.

The #SSMB29 team has remained tight-lipped, leaving fans yearning for updates. With Mahesh Babu’s birthday approaching in August, speculation is rife. While past major occasions haven’t yielded official announcements, whispers suggest a potential concept video reveal and a grand project launch on August 9th.

Despite the team’s silence on prior occasions, fans remain hopeful that Babu’s birthday will mark a turning point. The highly anticipated collaboration between these two titans of Telugu cinema promises to be an exceptional cinematic experience, and the wait for its official unveiling only amplifies the excitement.

Israel’s Shin Bet chief visits Cairo for Gaza ceasefire talks

Jerusalem, July 9 (IANS) An Israeli delegation, headed by Shin Bet security service chief Ronen Bar, spoke in Cairo on a ceasefire deal with Hamas, the media reported.

State-owned Kan TV reported on Monday that Bar also discussed with Egyptian officials the means to prevent weapons smuggling by Hamas from Egypt to Gaza.

Bar later visited Qatar to meet with negotiators there on a ceasefire deal for the war that has entered its 10th month and secure the release of about 120 hostages still held in Gaza, some of whom were feared dead, Xinhua news agency reported.

On Sunday, ahead of the delegation’s departure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he would only agree to a ceasefire deal if it allowed Israel to resume its military operations in Gaza following the release of hostages.

Hamas signaled last week that it had dropped a key demand that Israel first commit to a permanent ceasefire before it would sign the agreement, raising hopes for progress in the internationally brokered negotiations.

Iraqi PM, US official discuss ending coalition mission against IS in Iraq

Baghdad, July 9 (IANS) Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met with visiting US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Daniel Shapiro to discuss ending the US-led coalition mission fighting the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq.

The Prime Minister’s media office said on Monday that the talks focused on procedures for ending the international coalition mission and strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and the US, Xinhua news agency reported.

The meeting also touched on regional issues, with al-Sudani raising concerns about the “suffering of the Palestinian people” and the difficulties of delivering humanitarian aid.

He reportedly criticised the international community for not pressuring Israel to halt its actions.

Shapiro, according to the statement, emphasised the importance of Iraq’s role in regional stability and highlighted the need for continued communication and cooperation in areas like military equipment, security, and enhancing Iraqi forces’ capabilities.

The meeting follows an agreement in January between Iraq and the US to establish a joint Higher Military Commission tasked with overseeing the coalition’s withdrawal.

The Iraqi authorities report that the commission has convened on multiple occasions to develop a plan for troop redeployment.

UNSC to meet on Russian attack on Ukraine children’s hospital

United Nations, July 9 (IANS) Security Council is scheduled to take up on Tuesday Russia’s bombing of a children’s hospital in Ukraine that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned as “particularly shocking”.

Ukraine’s largest children’s health facility was among the places hit by a barrage of about 40 Russian missiles across the country on Monday.

Russia, which is the president of the Council for this month, will preside over the meeting called at the request of three permanent members, the US, Britain, and France, and the elected members Ecuador and Slovenia.

Guterres’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said, “Directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects is prohibited by international humanitarian law, and any such attacks are unacceptable and must end immediately”.

He said that in addition to the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialised Hospital in Kyiv, another medical facility in the capital was also hit by missiles.

A representative of Guterres will participate in the Council meeting, he said.

According to media reports, two children and a doctor were killed at the children’s hospital where many child victims of the war were being treated.

In all, nearly 40 people died in the attacks around the country on Monday.

The Council has been unable to act on Ukraine because of vetoes by Russia and China — and any attempts to act on the latest attacks will also fail.

Fingerprint Discovery Casts Shadow on Darshan Thoogudeepa in Renukaswamy Murder Case

The Renukaswamy murder case has taken a dramatic turn with the Karnataka police confirming the presence of fingerprints belonging to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his close friend Pavithra Gowda at the crime scene. This revelation deals a significant blow to their claims of innocence in the brutal killing of Renukaswamy, a devoted fan of Darshan.

Investigators allege that Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old resident of Chitradurga, posted derogatory comments about Pavithra Gowda on social media, accusing her of causing friction between Darshan and his wife, Vijayalakshmi. In a shocking turn of events, Darshan, Pavithra, and 15 others now stand accused of abducting Renukaswamy, subjecting him to torture that resulted in his death, and then disposing of his body in a storm drain located in Bengaluru.

The presence of fingerprints belonging to both Darshan and Pavithra at the crime scene significantly strengthens the prosecution’s case against them. Police have also confiscated potentially crucial evidence from the residences of the accused, including clothing and footwear allegedly worn by Darshan on the day of the murder. Furthermore, the investigation suggests that four individuals who initially confessed to the crime were allegedly offered a sum of Rs 20 lakh to take the blame and shield Darshan’s involvement.

Darshan and Pavithra remain in judicial custody as the case unfolds. Their bail requests are pending in court. The incident has triggered outrage throughout Karnataka, with many demanding a permanent ban on the actor. Darshan’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, has felt compelled to issue a public clarification to the police, stating that media reports wrongly identified Pavithra Gowda as Darshan’s wife.

The Renukaswamy murder case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with celebrity worship and the grave consequences that can arise from exceeding boundaries in the digital age. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation, and all parties involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Hyderabad, India: Actor Ram Charan has officially concluded filming for the high-octane action thriller “Game Changer,” directed by S. Shankar. This news comes as a welcome development for director Buchi Babu Sana, whose upcoming project hinges on Charan’s availability.

While the long-awaited collaboration between Charan and Buchi Babu has been formally announced and even launched with much fanfare, the project’s principal photography remains on hold. Following in the footsteps of his mentor, Sukumar, who is renowned for meticulous script development, Buchi Babu has assembled a writing team. His office reportedly bustles with activity as writers and assistant directors brainstorm ideas to ensure a watertight script.

The project boasts a stellar technical crew, including cinematographer Ratnavelu and the legendary music composer A.R. Rahman. While the leading lady is confirmed to be Janhvi Kapoor, reports suggest Rahman has already provided Buchi Babu with three potential musical compositions.
