Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran Breaks Records, Eyes Rs 300 Crore!

0

Sivakarthikeyan has just set sail into uncharted waters, joining the elite ranks of Kollywood’s biggest stars. With his recent blockbuster Amaran, a biopic based on the life of Indian Army martyr Major Mukund Varadarajan, he has not only earned critical acclaim but also a massive financial windfall. The film, featuring Sai Pallavi, has raked in an impressive Rs 244 crore as of Sunday, becoming the highest-grossing film in Sivakarthikeyan’s career and solidifying his place as one of Kollywood’s top-tier heroes.

As Amaran closes in on the Rs 250 crore mark, Sivakarthikeyan’s achievement is nothing short of historic. He’s now poised to join the ranks of Tamil cinema legends like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay in the exclusive Rs 250 crore club. To put this into perspective, his previous highest-grossing film, Don, earned Rs 125 crore-Amaran has doubled that, which speaks volumes about his skyrocketing popularity and the ever-growing fan base he commands.

With Amaran showing no signs of slowing down, it’s expected to easily surpass Rs 275 crore, and possibly even target the Rs 300 crore club, depending on the box office performance of Suriya’s Kanguva. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by industry heavyweights Kamal Haasan, R Mahendran, and Vivek Krishnan, Amaran has become a must-watch sensation. GV Prakash Kumar’s captivating soundtrack has also added to the film’s appeal, further cementing Sivakarthikeyan’s place in the limelight.

In the grand scheme of things, Sivakarthikeyan’s journey from modest beginnings to becoming a Rs 250 crore star feels like a cinematic rags-to-riches tale. Now, the only question remains: will his next movie top this achievement, or will he just keep cruising past the competition? Either way, one thing’s for sure—he’s not just in the game, he’s leading it!

Did Chiranjeevi address the controversies pertaining to himself and Pawan Kalyan, who is now the deputy CM of AP? We will know the answer soon.

High-speed internet linked to increased Australian obesity

0

Sydney, Nov 11 (IANS) New research has found a link between high-speed internet activities and Australia’s growing rate of obesity.

According to a study published on Monday, sedentary internet activities such as online gaming and binge-watching on streaming platforms are driving increasing obesity in Australia.

“Access to high-speed internet connection decreases the likelihood of individuals meeting the minimum physical activity recommendation proposed by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” said Klaus Ackermann, senior author of the research from Melbourne’s Monash University.

The research team from Monash University, the University of Melbourne, and the RMIT University analysed data from the comprehensive Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey covering the period 2006-2019 to explore the impact of high-speed internet on obesity.

They found that a one-per cent increase in the adoption rate of the National Broadband Network (NBN) is associated with an increase in the prevalence of obesity, Xinhua news agency reported.

Ackermann said that the problem of sedentary behaviour while engaging in high-speed internet activities is exacerbated by the frequent consumption of snacks while doing so.

Additionally, he said that the internet has enabled ease of access to goods and services, reducing the need to perform errands physically, and reduced the need to meet up with friends and family in person.

Official data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in December 2023 showed that 65.8 per cent of Australian adults were either overweight or obese in 2022, up from 62.8 per cent in 2012.

The federal government’s 2022 National Obesity Strategy estimated that obesity cost the Australian community 11.8 billion Australian dollars ($7.7 billion) in 2018.

Japan MSDF minesweeper sinks after catching fire, one crew still missing

0

Tokyo, Nov 11 (IANS) A Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) minesweeper vessel capsized and sank on Monday after catching fire off the coast of the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka the previous day, local media reported.

The fire was extinguished after the MSDF’s minesweeper Ukushima toppled on its side shortly after midnight, allowing the Coast Guard to begin search operations, but one crewman remains unaccounted for, the local Coast Guard office said.

The Coast Guard has launched a search and rescue operation for the missing crewman inside the sunken ship using divers, while the MSDF has launched an investigation of the incident, reports Xinhua, quoting Kyodo News.

The Ukushima, carrying a crew of about 40, reported a fire in the engine room at around 9:40 a.m. (local time) on Sunday when it was sailing some 2.5 kilometres off Oshima island in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Ukushima’s crew evacuated to another MSDF minesweeper Toyoshim by around 3:45 p.m. (local time) on Sunday, but an engine room crewman, later identified as 33-year-old petty officer 3rd class Tatsunori Koga, was found absent, while one crewman in his 20s who suffered a non-life-threatening injury was taken to hospital.

At the time of the fire, the two were on duty in the engine room, where the blaze is believed to have started.

The Ukushima which left an MSDF base in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, earlier Sunday, was conducting a drill while sailing to Kagoshima Prefecture.

Hero wants to stop reviews for 2 days: Will it Happen?

0

There is a growing commotion in the South Indian film industry to curb the cinema reviews culture. There is a new demand that film reviews must be halted for at least two days from the day of the release.

In this connection, hero Satya Dev has remarked that cinema reviewers must be vary of the repercussions that their reviews have.

“These days, the audience is watching films only based on reviews. This is more prevalent in the case of small films. So, my request to reviewers and critics is to be vary of the kind of knee-jerk reactions they can have on the film industry and act accordingly.” Satya Dev commented.

Though Satya Dev has a valid comment to make, it might not entirely be feasible. If a film is good, then the reviewers and critics will rate it positively, which would in turn result in better box office reception. If the film is bad, then the reviews will be in accordance and the box office verdict will also be similar.

The emphasis should always be on the good quality of films rather than the nature of the reviews. This is where the film industry appears to be lacking.

Don’t Call Me Ulaganayagan: Kamal Haasan

0

Veteran Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan is one of the most popular names in South Indian cinema. In tune with his impeccable record of playing diverse roles, he is given the famous tag of Ulaganayagan.

However, Kamal doesn’t appear to be in approval of these tags and he has retreated against them today. He has asked his fans and common audience alike not to use such extension names to him. I have always felt a deep sense of gratitude over being bestowed with endearing titles such as Ulaganayagan, among others.

Such accolades, given by the people and recognized by esteemed colleagues and admirers, has always been humbling, and I’ve been genuinely moved by your love in conferring it upon me, Kamal stated.

However, the legendary emphasised against the usage of such tags as he wrote “The art of cinema transcends beyond any one individual and I am but a student of the craft, forever hoping to evolve, learn and grow. Cinema, like any other form of creative expression, belongs to all. It is the collaboration of countless artists, technicians, and audience who make it what it is – a true reflection of humanity’s diverse, rich, and ever-evolving stories. It is my humble belief that the artist must not be elevated above the art. I prefer to remain grounded, constantly aware of my imperfections and my duty to improve.”

Hence, after considerable reflection, I feel compelled to respectfully decline all such titles or prefixes. I humbly request that all my fans, the media, members of film fraternity, party cadre and fellow Indians, to here on after, refer to me simply as Kamal Haasan or Kamal or KH. Thank you again for your gestures of kindness over the years. Please know that this decision comes from a place of humility and a desire to remain true to my roots and purpose, to always be one among all of us – the lovers of this beautiful art form, Kamal concluded.

Kamal has stated that he doesn’t wish to be called Ulaganayagan or any such titles in the future and urged everyone to simply refer to him as Kamal or KH.
