Allu Arjun Files Petition in Andhra Pradesh High Court
Tollywood icon Allu Arjun has filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking to quash a case registered against him in Nandyal during the election period. The case was filed under Section 144 and Police Act 30 for allegedly gathering a large crowd without permission .
In the past, Allu Arjun was booked for violating section 144 of the CrPC and section 30 of the Police Act for holding a massive gathering without permission. The actor’s petition requests the court to dismiss this case.
The High Court may review the petition and consider Allu Arjun’s request to quash the case. The court’s decision will determine the future course of action in this matter.
Roja Demands Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan’s Resignation
Nagiri: Former minister and YSRCP leader RK Roja criticized the state government for failing to protect women, citing rising incidents of rape and murder, and called on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Home Minister Anita to resign if they cannot ensure women’s safety.
Speaking to the media in Nagiri, Roja highlighted that despite the frequent crimes against women, the state government continues to ignore these issues. She pointed out recent incidents, such as the brutal rape and murder of a young woman in Badvel and the attack on a woman in Tenali, who is now brain-dead. Despite these tragedies, CM Chandrababu flew to Hyderabad to attend a TV show recording with MLA Balakrishna instead of meeting the victims’ families.
She also criticized Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan for his silence on the issue, questioning his previous promises to take strong action against criminals. Roja remarked that the TDP government was more focused on political vendettas, filing false cases against YSRCP leaders, while using the police for personal gains instead of maintaining law and order.
Roja demanded that the government should immediately push for the implementation of the Disha Act for women’s safety and restore women’s police stations. She warned that if the government continues to neglect the safety of women, the public would respond by teaching them a lesson.

India-Russia ties so strong that PM Modi would understand me without translation
Kazan, Oct 22 (IANS) Highlighting the time-tested India-Russia partnership and his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday emphasised that the bond between the two countries is so strong that PM Modi would understand him without needing the help of any translator.
Putin made the remark as both leaders sat down for bilateral discussions in Kazan on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit.
“Our relationship is so tight that you will understand me without any translation,” said the Russian President, sparking laughter in the room at the Governor’s Palace.
The Russian President then recalled PM Modi’s visit to Moscow in July, the “fruitful negotiations” that were held and thanked the Indian Prime Minister for accepting his invite and coming to Kazan for the BRICS summit.
“In Kazan we must make a number of important decisions aimed at further improving the activities of the association and strengthening multifaceted cooperation within its framework. And we greatly value our cooperation in this area, I mean that our states stood at the origins of the association’s creation,” he highlighted.
Putin stated that Russian-Indian relations are characterised by a ‘Special Privileged Strategic Partnership’ and continue to develop actively.
“Interaction between legislative bodies is strengthening. Our foreign ministers are in constant contact. Trade turnover is in good condition. And the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission is scheduled for November 12 in New Delhi,” he added.
India has maintained a steady relationship with Russia even during the current geopolitical crisis amid the ongoing conflict in the region – a fact that Putin acknowledged once again during his meeting with PM Modi on Tuesday.
“Major projects are being developed consistently, and we welcome your decision to open the Consulate General of India in Kazan. Expanding India’s diplomatic presence in Russia will contribute to the further development of bilateral relations,” said the Russian President.
In July, during PM Modi’s visit to Russia – his first to the country since 2019 and first to Moscow after 2015 – Putin conferred the Indian PM with the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia’s highest civilian award.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar had hailed the growing ties between the two countries.
“If you look at our history with Russia after Independence, Russia has never done anything to impact our interests negatively. Among the major countries, there are not many about whom you can say this,” Jaishankar said at the NDTV World Summit.
Australian study discovers genetic link between brain volume & disorders
Sydney, Oct 22 (IANS) A large-scale study of brain volumes by an Australian institute published on Tuesday has revealed links between genetic variants in brain size and conditions including Parkinson’s disease.
The study, which was published by Australia’s QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, discovered hundreds of genetic variants involved in brain volume that are also found in people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Miguel Renteria, leader of the research project from QIMR Berghofer, said that the discovery shows that some genetic variants that influence brain structure also influence the risk of developing brain-related conditions, Xinhua news agency reported.
Led by Renteria and QIMR colleague Luis Garcia-Marin, an international team of 189 scientists analysed DNA data and brain scans from 76,000 participants across 19 countries.
They observed 254 genetic variants that influence the size of a person’s brain structure and then studied whether those variants were also implicated in the risk of developmental, psychiatric and neurological disorders.
“Genetic variants associated with larger brain volumes in key brain regions also increase the risk of Parkinson’s disease, while variants linked to smaller brain volumes in key regions are associated with an increased risk of ADHD,” Renteria said in a media release.
“These findings suggest that genetic influences that underpin individual differences in brain structure may be fundamental to understanding the underlying causes of brain-related disorders,” he said.
Renteria described the research as a necessary step to understand and eventually treat neurological conditions more effectively and Garcia-Marin said it represents a step closer to treating the conditions in the future.

Peru’s ex-President Toledo sentenced to 20 years in prison over corruption
Lima, Oct 22 (IANS) Peru’s judiciary sentenced former President Alejandro Toledo, who was in office from 2001 to 2006, to 20 years and six months in prison after finding him guilty of aggravated collusion and money laundering in the Odebrecht case.
The decision was made on Monday by the second collegiate court of the National Supreme Court of Specialized Criminal Justice, making Toledo the first of four investigated former presidents to go to jail in the Odebrecht case, one of the largest bribery and graft scandals in Latin America, Xinhua news agency reported.
The 78-year-old former President was extradited from the United States in April last year to face charges for allegedly taking at least $20 million in bribes from Odebrecht, a Brazilian construction company, in exchange for a government contract to build the Interoceanic Highway linking Peru and Brazil.
During a hearing, Toledo insisted that he was “innocent,” saying that “I never made any arrangement with (Jorge) Barata,” former head of Odebrecht in Peru.

After a case was booked against Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor under POCSO Act for showing obscene scenes of juvenile girls in an episode series ‘Gandi Baat’, TV czarina’s Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited has now come out with a clarification.For the unversed, Ekta and her mother Shobha Kapoor were booked under the POCSO Act for reportedly showing explicit content featuring minor girls in an episode of the production house’s web series ‘Gandi Baat’. According to reports, the POCSO act was against Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and the Alt Balaji firm by the Mumbai Police.
A statement on behalf of Ekta’s Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited read: “With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series – ‘Gandi Baat’, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd.”“(‘Company’) hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act and any references to engagement of minors by the Company is entirely incorrect,” the statement further read.
The statement further stated that Shobha and Ektaa are not “involved in the day to day operations of the company”“It is further clarified that Mrs. Shobha Kapoor and Ms. Ektaa R Kapoor are not involved in the day to day operations of the Company and the same are managed by separate teams, including its content strategy.”
“The Company has complete faith in the judiciary and is fully co-operating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub-judice, the Company refrains from commenting in detail.”According to reports,a case was booked against Ekta Kapoor of Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited and her mother Shobha Kapoor on October 20 under the POCSO Act. The mother-daughter duo were called for the first round of questioning on October 22.
If reports are to be believed, the two will be appearing for further questioning on October 24, as per Mumbai Police.
