7 Indians In BBC World Top 100 Women
As many as seven Indian women achievers have secured prominent ranks in the BBC’s list of 100 most aspirational women. Asha Bhosle (singer), Sania Mirza (tennis champion), Kamini Kaushal (veteran actor), Rimppi Kumari (farmer), Smriti Nagpal (entrepreneur), Mumtaz Shaikh (campaigner) and Kanika Tekriwal (entrepreneur) are the chosen women icons for this honour.
BBC came up with the list as part of its “100 Women season†which was telecast on BBC World News starting Wednesday. BBC names 100 women achievers each year, who are chosen based on a mix of influential personalities who are world leaders in politics, science and entertainment, as well as inspirational women from across the world.
Asha Bhosle is a popular Bollywood playback singer with more than1,000 films to her credit. Kamini Kaushal acted in more than 100 films. Rimppi is a farmer who took over a 32-acre farm in Rajasthan along with her sister after their father’s death.
Sania Mirza is India’s most successful women’s tennis player with several Grandslams to get credit. Smriti Nagpal is a sign language interpreter in India and her company has the largest aurally challenged population in the world. Mumtaz Shaikh earned recognition with the Right to Pee campaign.
In her campaign, Mumtaz built 96 free toilets for Mumbai women, which resulted in the Maharashtra government allot Rs. 5 crore to build women toilets across Mumbai. Kanika Tekriwal is a cancer survivor who established India’s first and only marketplace for helicopter charters and private jets.
15 Maoists Killed in Encounter
In a deathly attack, at least 15 Maoists, including a woman Maoist, were killed on Thursday in Chattisgarh’s Sukuma district. This took place during an encounter with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. So far, two bodies of Maoists have been recovered. Inspector of General of Police Bastar Range, SRP Kalluri corroborated the news.
The operation was carried out by the joint squad of the CRPF’s 217th battalion and Sukuma district police officials. Earlier, two Naxals were arrested during a search operation in Konta area, about 500 km from Raipur.
Based on the information about the location of Maoist commander Hidma, who is the head of 1st military battalion of Naxals, in the region, CRPF carried the operation. However, they are yet to trace Hidma.
Hidma was allegedly involved in the 2013 Jiram valley Naxal attack in Bastar’s Darbha region in which 31 people, including some senior state Congress leaders, were killed and the 2010 Chintalnar ambush in Dantewada in which 76 troopers were killed. Further details will be known once the police team returns to its camp.

With few more days left for release of Kona Venkat and Nikhil’s combination ‘Sankarabharanam’ to hit the screens on 3rd of next month, the team is geared up for aggressive promotions. One such publicity technique to be unveiled today is the release of ‘Sankarabharanam’ theme song.
As informed by Nikhil on social networking, this song will be launched at 6 PM today through media channels. In fact the song would have been released by now but due to last minute delays and Kona’s plan to rope in a star celebrity for releasing this song led to postponement. ‘I sincerely apologize for the delay but u will be pleasantly surprised to know who the celebrity is. Thanks for your patience. It will be worth the wait,’ Nikhil wrote.
In no time, Kona broke the suspense built by Nikhil as the name of celebrity is none other than Naga Chaitanya who is going to unveil the theme song. As we do know, Chaitu is playing the main lead in Kona’s production venture ‘Sahasam Swaasaga Saagipo,’ so this is a double pronged strategy from Kona using Chaitu for Nikhil movie.
