Actor-turned Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member K. Chiranjeevi on Wednesday said that the people would never believe TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s assurances.

Speaking to the media at his old PRP office here, Chiranjeevi said that Chandrababu Naidu would have to keep his word on earmarking 100 seats to the BCs in the 2014 general elections. He said that Chandrababu had given the same assurance in the past, but failed to fulfill his word. He said that he would feel happy if the TDP gave 100 seats to the BCs

TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao has said that creation of separate Telangana State was nearing and there are clear signals in this regard.

Addressing Singareni Vijayotsava Sabha at Telangan Bhavan here on Wednesday, the TRS chief said that there were no minimum facilities to the employees though the Singareni coal mines was earning profit in crores of rupees. He thanked the Singareni workers for ensuring victory of Telangana Boggu Gani Karmikula Samithi (TBGKS), on behalf of four-and-a-half crores of Telangana people. He said the TBGKS has to fight for their rights. He exhorted the TBGKS leaders to work differently from the other unions. He said that the other Union leaders, who came wearing slippers, were now roaming in cars and never bothered to solve problems of the Singareni workers.

Making it clear that the TRS was the only party that was fighting for Telangana State, he said that the days are very near for creation of separate State. He said that there would be party review meetings for every six months. He asked the TBGKS president Kingarla Mallaiah to take responsibility of ensuring victory of party MLAs in the Singareni divisions in 2014. He said that the TRS would emerge as winner with thumping majority.

KCR said that two months’ salary, which the Singareni employees had lost during the Sakala Janula Samme would be given with interest after formation of separate State. He said that he would try to exempt the Singareni employees from paying Income Tax too.

YSR Congress honorary president Y S Vijayamma has said that her son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would come out of jail within 15 days and attend to people’s problems.She told this while on a tour of the district on Wednesday. Vijayamma has inaugurated work on a drinking water scheme at a cost of Rs. 15 lakhs in Rajeev Nagar colony in Vempalli.

Speaking on the occasion, she has expressed confidence that Jagan would get bail in the Supreme Court. Stating that all the welfare schemes launched by her late husband Rajasekhara Reddy were given a goby by the present government, she said Jagan would become the Chief Minister in 2014 and attend to all their needs.

She has recalled how YSR had taken up welfare schemes which no other Chief Minister had taken up anywhere in the country. She has faulted the Congress leaders for claiming all those schemes to be theirs. She has questioned if those were Congress party’s schemes, why they were not being implemented in other states.

Vijayamma MLA from Pulivendula has undertaken a tour of Kadapa as her son MP of Kadapa constituency is in jail and unable to attend to people’s problems.

TDP has decided to cancel ‘Maha Nadu’ the party’s annual conclave this year and hold it in May next year.

The extended meeting of the TDP has on Tuesday discussed about strengthening of the party. It was decided to hold elections to village and ward committees from July 20 to 30. The party has also decided to hold elections to party’s mandal and frontal committees from August 5 to 20. From August 20 to 30, elections to district committees and other frontal committees of districts would be held.

It is said that the party President felt it was good to concentrate on strengthen the party rather than holding the Maha Nadu. The Maha Nadu, usually held in every May, was put-off due to the by-elections then. Now, the party has decided to cancel this year’s Maha Nadu.

Meanwhile, the party President N Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting separately with the leaders of Krishna district and discussed party affairs, with particular reference to Gudiwada MLA Kodali Nani quitting the party and planning to join YSRCP. He has alerted the district leaders to be ready to face by-election if Nani resigns his Assembly seat.

Nani a close associate of TDP’s Nandamuri Hari Krishna and his actor son Jr. NTR got TDP ticket because of the two. Though the TDP leaders claim that it was their charisma that worked in his favour in 2004 and 2009 when he won the seat despite winds strongly favouring the Congress, every politician knows that Nani’s victory was hard won and money played a key role. If Hari Krishna has a magic wand with which he could ensure the victory of his followers, why was he himself defeated as ‘Anna Telugu Desam’ candidate in 1999 and even lost deposit, question Nani’s supporters. Hari Krishna chose the Gudivada constituency as it was the birth place of N T Rama Rao, his father and founder of TDP, when he launched his own party wanted to take on Chandra Babu Naidu. TDP candidate Ravi Haragopal has defeated Hari Krishna then. Supporters of Nani are also questioning (though privately), why has the TDP not come to power in 2009, when Jr. NTR campaigned the party if his charisma was alone sufficient to win an election.

TDP leaders are stating that Nani had openly told them that he had spent Rs. 30 crore to get elected to the Assembly in 2009 and he was not sure of getting elected as TDP candidate in 2014 even if he spent that much or more.

Nani’s supporters are stating that he has taken the decision to switch his loyalty to the YSR Congress because a majority of the SC population (44,000) was now supporting Jagan. The Kamma community to which Nani belongs has only 9,000 votes in the constituency, which has a Muslim Population of 20,000 and Vysya population of 15,000. There are 30,000 BCs. Of the BCs, Kapus form a majority with 20,000 votes. Kapus who have a long-drawn battle with Kammas would not vote for the TDP, branded as a party of the community. With most of the local communities that form a majority of the voters supporting Jagan, the YSR Congress is clearly ahead of others, say analysts. It is because of this calculation that Nani has left the TDP, say sources.
