Mumbai, Oct 3 (IANS) Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was joined by his son Junaid and former wife Kiran Rao for the last rites of his ex ex father-in-law and Reena Dutta’s father on Thursday.A video showed Aamir attending the last rite. He was seen helping Reena to come out of the ambulance after reaching the crematorium. Filmmaker Kiran Rao and Junaid too were seen. They were spotted engaging in a conversation.

Samantha Prabhu Joins Secret Alchemist as Co-Founder
New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS) As Tamil megastar Rajinikanth was successfully treated for swelling in his aorta, or the main blood vessel leaving his heart, health experts on Wednesday said eight out of 10 individuals with a ruptured aortic aneurysm do not reach the hospital alive.
An aortic aneurysm is a dangerous condition where the aorta, the body’s largest artery, becomes enlarged by more than 1.5 times its normal size.
According to Dr Sanjeeva Kumar Gupta, Consultant, Department of Cardiology at C.K. Birla Hospital in the national capital, while typically symptomless, if it dissects or ruptures, it can cause severe chest, abdominal, or back pain and lead to life-threatening bleeding.
Risk factors include smoking, heavy alcohol use, hypertension, and advanced age.
Aortic aneurysms are treated through surgery, either with open surgery or minimally invasive endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).
Dr Krishna Chaitanya, lead consultant, vascular and endovascular surgery, Aster RV Hospital, Bengaluru, said that it is rather unfortunate that most aneurysms do not produce symptoms until it presents a rupture.
“Only a handful of fortunate individuals have it detected incidentally during a CT scan or ultrasound examinations for unrelated conditions. Some studies estimate about 12 per cent of the adults over 65 years of age suffer from aortic aneurysm while a lesser percentage is seen in younger individuals,” Dr Chaitanya told IANS.
Several cases of sudden deaths are erroneously branded as massive heart attacks or natural ageing, while the actual cause is never discovered.
“It is said that eight out of 10 individuals with a ruptured aortic aneurysm do not reach the hospital alive. At present, active aortic aneurysm screening is the only way to detect aortic aneurysm in the population ‘at risk’,” Dr Chaitanya noted.
According to the private hospital in Chennai where Rajinikanth was treated, “he had a swelling in the main blood vessel leaving his heart (Aorta), which was treated by a nonsurgical transcatheter method”.
According to doctors, the EVAR procedure involves placing a stent graft via a small incision to reinforce the weakened part of the aorta and prevent rupture.
For smaller aneurysms or patients unfit for surgery, medical therapy focuses on managing risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol, along with regular ultrasound monitoring. As undetected and untreated aneurysms can have devastating consequences, many developed countries have incorporated aortic aneurysm screening into their national health system. For instance, the NHS in the UK sends a screening invitation to every man after his 64th birthday.
Indian Army to get quantum key distribution technology
New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) Under the initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Indian Army signed the eight procurement contracts through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Defence, QuNu Labs had proposed a 200 km single-hop Quantum key distribution in Open Challenge 2.0 under iDEX. It will replace the algorithm-based encryption systems thus enabling greater security and also optimising manpower commitment.
The contract for procurement of ‘Generation of Quantum Secure Key (quantum key distribution)’ was signed with M/s QuNu Labs. This contract was signed, in the presence of Lieutenant General NC Raja Subramani, Vice Chief of The Army Staff at South Block, New Delhi.
MoD Informed that the iDEX was launched by the Prime Minister on 12 April 2018 during Defence Expo India 2018. The aim of iDEX is to create an eco-system to foster innovations and encourage technological development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging Research and Development (R&D) Institutes, Academia, and Industries including MSMEs, Start-Ups, and individual innovators.
It also provides them with funding and other support to carry out R&D which has good potential for future adoption by the Indian Defence and Aerospace Organisation.
iDEX under the Defence Innovation Organisation has emerged as a front-runner in establishing the right kind of contact with Startups and Innovators and has gained substantial traction in the Defence Startup Community.
At present, there are a total of 74 Projects of IA under iDEX including as part of Acing Devp of Innovation Tech with iDEX (ADITI), Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC) & Open Challenge schemes. It involves the handholding of 77 Startups for the development of the latest state-of-the-art solutions for the Indian Army. Indian Army is already carrying out field exploitation of the four delivered equipment from various iDEX schemes.
Based on the results of the field exploitation further Spiral Development of the innovative technology will be progressed with the Startups, MoD officials added.
Austrian President calls for calm coalition talks after far-right election win
Vienna, Oct 3 (IANS) Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen called on all parties in the newly-elected parliament to seek compromises in coalition talks after the far-right Freedom Party won the general election.
The Freedom Party won its first-ever election of the National Council, Austria’s lower house of parliament, on Sunday by securing 29.2 per cent of the vote, Xinhua news agency reported quoting the Austrian broadcaster ORF.
As it fell short of an absolute majority, the Freedom Party needed to find a coalition partner to govern. Still, all other parties had ruled out the possibility of a coalition with it under its controversial leader Herbert Kickl before the election.
The conservative People’s Party, which led the outgoing government, saw its support dropping to 26.5 per cent on Sunday from 37.5 per cent in the previous general election in 2019. Its coalition partner, the Greens, also saw its vote decrease to 8 per cent from 13.9 per cent in 2019.
“The election campaign is over. The confrontation is over. Now compromises must be found,” Van der Bellen said on Wednesday when he accepted the outgoing government’s resignation and entrusted it to stay as caretaker until a new coalition government is formed.
Van der Bellen said he would hold talks with the leaders of all five parties in the new parliament, adding that he would “do this with the necessary calm and in the necessary depth.”
“Now it’s about talking to each other and finding a viable majority,” he said.
Van der Bellen, however, did not reveal on Wednesday whether he would appoint Kickl to form a new government.
It is a common practice for Austria’s President to entrust the party that wins the general election to form a new government, but it is not mandatory under the constitution.
Zambia draws $58 million investment in digital infrastructure
Lusaka, Oct 3 (IANS) Zambia has attracted a total investment of about $58 million in digital infrastructure following the removal of tax on the importation of equipment for digital infrastructure in 2021.
During a panel discussion at the 2024 Digital Government Africa Summit underway in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, Zambian Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati on Wednesday said the investment has helped the country connect itself to all its eight neighbouring countries through fibre optic technology.
Mutati said the country has seen a lot of private sector investment in digital infrastructure since the removal of tax on importation of digital equipment, Xinhua news agency reported.
The government, he said, was promoting incentives, innovation and investment to boost private sector involvement in the economy.
Percy Chinyama, national coordinator of the Smart Zambia Institute, a government agency that coordinates and implements e-government, called for a collaborative approach toward digital transformation in Africa.
Zambia is hosting the second edition of the Digital Government Africa Summit aimed at finding solutions to drive digital transformation in Africa.
The summit, which runs from Wednesday to Friday, has attracted over 500 delegates from more than 30 African countries.

నటుడిగా ప్రారంభ రోజుల్లో ప్రయాణం చాలా కష్టమైనదని ఆయన అన్నారు. కొందరు తనను జీవిత చరిత్ర రాయమని సూచించారని, అయితే తన కథ స్ఫూర్తిని కలిగించే బదులు నిరుత్సాహానికి గురిచేస్తుందని భావించినట్టు చెప్పాడు. నా జీవిత ప్రయాణం చాలా కష్టంతో కూడుకున్నది.. చాలా బాధాకరమైనది. నేను కోల్కతాలోని బ్లైండ్ లేన్ నుండి వచ్చాను. బొంబాయి చాలా కష్టమైన చోటు. ఒకరోజు నాకు తిండి కూడా దొరకని స్థితి ఉంది. కొన్నిసార్లు ఫుట్పాత్లపై పడుకున్నాను. ఈ ప్రయాణం చాలా కష్టంగా సాగింది. చాలా మంది నన్ను జీవిత చరిత్ర ఎందుకు రాయకూడదని అడుగుతారు. నా కథ ప్రజలను ప్రేరేపించదు.. నైతికంగా వారిని దిగజార్చుతుంది కాబట్టి నేను నో చెప్పాను. ఇది పోరాడుతున్న యువకుల మనోభావాలను విచ్ఛిన్నం చేస్తుంది.. అని మిథున చక్రవర్తి అన్నారు.
అలాంటి (ఫుట్ పాత్ పై నిదురించిన) ఒక అబ్బాయి సినీరంగంలోని భారతదేశపు అతిపెద్ద అవార్డును గెలుచుకోవడం నేను ఇప్పటికీ జీర్ణించుకోలేకపోతున్నాను. నేను ఇంకా మత్తులో ఉన్నాను.. ఇంత పెద్ద అవార్డు నాకోసం. నేను ఆశ్చర్యపోయాను.. నేను ఇంకా దాని నుండి బయటపడలేదు! అని మిథున్ తన ఆనందాన్ని వ్యక్తం చేసారు.
మిథున్ చక్రవర్తి తన కెరీర్ ప్రారంభంలో జాతీయ అవార్డును గెలుచుకోవడం అహంకారానికి ఎలా దారితీసిందో చెబుతూ… నాకు మొదటి జాతీయ అవార్డు దక్కగానే నేను అల్ పాసినో లాగా నటించడం ప్రారంభించాను. నేనే గొప్ప నటుడినని అనిపించింది. నా వైఖరి మారింది.. కాబట్టి నిర్మాతలు దీనిని చూసి బయపడ్డారు.
అప్పుడు నాకు నా తప్పు అర్థమైంది… అని నిజాయితీగా చెప్పారు. మిధున్ చక్రవర్తి ప్రముఖ హిందీ నటుడు. జన్మతహ బెంగాలీ అయినప్పటికీ హిందీ చిత్రాలలో రాణించాడు. డిస్కో డాన్సర్ చిత్రం ద్వారా ఖ్యాతి పొందాడు. పలు పురస్కారాలు కూడా సాధించాడు. మిధున్ చక్రవర్తికి 2024 జనవరి 25న కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం పద్మ భూషణ్ అవార్డును ప్రకటించింది.
