Upendra is one star who has no airs about himself and who does not show off his starry status. Actress Sonal Chauhan says the issue of weight struggles has been addressed in the “most sensitive” and “beautiful manner” in forthcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual comedy “Size Zero”, which releases in cinemas on Friday. Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and written by Kanika Dhillon, the film features Anushka Shetty in the lead role as an overweight woman. “The beauty of the film lies in the way it addresses a major issue with so much sensitivity. It presents everything in such a lighter vein that it will instantly connect with the audience,” Sonal told IANS. Describing her experience of working in the film as “fantastic”, she said: “When I first met Prakash and his wife Kanika, there was so much of positivity around them. I usually go by the vibes, and I knew deep down here’s a project that’ll definitely work.” Despite the outcome of the project, Sonal believes that everybody who worked on the film will be “really proud”.

“This is a story with a lot of heart, and made by a team of people who sincerely felt for it,” she said. The film also stars Arya and Adivi Sesh, besides cameos by a bevy of stars such as Akkineni Nagarjuna, Rana Daggubati, Simhaa, Jiiva, Kajal Aggarwal, Tamannaah Bhatia, Hansika Motwani and Revathy. The film, according to the “Legend” actress, also successfully breaks many stereotypes, including some preconceived notion about non-resident Indians (NRI). “Although I play a very fit, good-looking and glamorous NRI who comes to India to work on a project with an NGO, I’m portrayed in a very positive light but not as someone sans the traditional values,” she said. On working with Anushka, with whom Sonal has shared the screen space for the first time, she said: “I think Anushka deserves the success she’s got so far this year. Good things only happen to good people and I want only good things to happen to her.” Sonal said that even though Anushka is a highly successful star, she remains grounded. “This quality is what makes her instantly likable. It’s extremely tough to be humble when you’re so successful, but Anushka is an exception and that’s something I learnt from her,” she said.

Wearable tech to decode sign language

Texas: The communication barrier between deaf people who use sign language and those that don’t understand it may be coming to an end thanks to a new wearable technology being developed at Texas A&M University. The device incorporates a system of sensors that records the motion of hand gestures, as well as the electromyography or EMG signals produced by muscles in the wrist when signing. “We decode the muscle activities we are capturing from the wrist. Some of it is coming from the fingers indirectly because if I happen to keep my fist like this versus this, the muscle activation is going to be a little different,” said Roozbeh Jafari, an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. It’s those differences that present the researchers with their biggest challenge. Fine tuning the device to process and translate the different signals accurately, in real time, requires sophisticated algorithms.

The other problem is that no two people sign exactly alike, which is why they designed the system to learn from its user. “When you wear the system for the first time the system operates with some level of accuracy. But as you start using the system more often, the system learns from your behavior and it will adapt its own learning models to fit you,” Jafari added. Currently the proof of concept device is equipped to send the translated sign language to a computer or smartphone using Bluetooth. Going forward the team hope to miniaturize the device so it can be worn on a users’ wrist like a watch and program it to decipher complete sentences rather than just individual words. The researchers also want to incorporate a synthetic voice speaker, an upgrade that could potentially give the 70 million deaf people around the world a new voice.

Anushka Shetty has put on a lot of weight for her oversized character in Size Zero. It is a very brave move for an actress who thrives upon glamorous roles all the time. Anushka had to let go many films to maintain the look for Size Zero. She is still looking bulky and had to shed lot of kilos before she gets back on the sets of Baahubali. Rumor mills say that Anushka is planning to undergo a weight loss surgery in US to get back in shape. Anushka denied the news and said that she would never do such things that might affect her health and body. Being a yoga instructor herself Anushka believes in natural ways to shed down the extra kilos.

Anushka has put on weight within few months all by the changes in diet. She is all set to shed all that flab by doing yoga and making subtle changes to her diet. Anushka has given more than a year for Baahubali 2 and is not taking up any new assignments as she wanted to give her full time for this epic movie. Rashi Khanna and Gopichand were seen romancing in the movie Jil that didn’t fare that well at the box office. However their cute romance track in the movie has won accolades. Jyothi Krishna has written an action love story in the mean time and Gopichand has instantly liked it and gave a positive nod. Gopichand is currently doing Soukhyam that is set for December release. Mumbai: Bollywood actor-producer Aamir Khan on Wednesday clarified his stance on ‘intolerance’, saying he and his wife Kiran Rao love India and won’t leave the country. Aamir said that while he stood by the interview that triggered a huge row, the avalanche of criticism directed at him and his wife only proved what he had said of the situation in the country. “First, let me state categorically that neither I nor my wife Kiran have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future,” he said in a statement. “Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. “India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying,” the 50-year-old celebrated actor said. “Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview.

“To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be Indian, and I do not need anyone’s permission or endorsement for that. “To all the people shouting obscenities at me for speaking my heart out, it saddens me to say you are only proving my point. “To all the people who have stood by me, thank you. We have to protect what this beautiful and unique country of ours really stands for. We have to protect its integrity, diversity, inclusiveness, its many languages, its culture, its history, its tolerance, it’s concept of ‘ekantavada’, it’s love, sensitivity and its emotional strength.” At an awards event in New Delhi on Sunday, Aamir had spoken of “growing despondency” in India for the last six to eight months. He had said: “When I sit at home and talk to Kiran, for the first time she said, ‘Should we move out of India?’ Now that’s a very disastrous and a big comment to make to me.” His statement attracted widespread criticism even as many defended him.
