Tollywood film makers after watching Power Star Pawan Kalyan starrer ‘Cameraman Man Gagato Rambabu’ directed by Puri Jagannath plunge into controversy will never dare to take the risk of making political films from now on. For good or bad films send a message some time brining social awareness in them with political films. Some films in Tollywood like Malapilla instilled that confidence in film makers.
However with some directors taking political entertainers with their own mediocre knowledge the purpose of such films is not served to optimum extent. Those kind of films lack basic strengths of strong storyline, script and even with political parties not taking the contents in a sportive manner, film makers are scared of touching those kind of scripts. Top director like Maniratnam himself faced lot of problems while taking
‘Iruvar’(Iddaru) to satisfy the ego of Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha and in the process tasted failure.
Prior to NTR’s entry into policits, Superstar Krishna targeted the then Cong Govt with his film ‘Eenaadu’. All the roles in the film resembled and reflected the then leaders but no one objected. The film however influenced many people who then turned against the Govt. Later some film makers came with films like ‘Mandaladheesudu’ against NTR, that too when TDP was in full swing. However no one objected or uttered a single word against the film. People who were interested watched the film while others stayed away.But Pradeep Sakthi who donned the role of NTR bore the brunt as he did not get any offers later and flew to US.
Kodi Ramakrishna is an expert in making political entertainers. Even many roles in his films resembled cotemporary politicians no one pointed fingers at him. For that matter in one film which had NTR in lead, Satyanarayana will be seen as Satya Sai Baba getup. However devotees of Saibaba never attacked any theaters. Similarly in one film Kota Srinivasa Rao’s role resembled NTR but TDP or its cadres never attacked theaters or film makers. During those days people are intelligent enough to view films, politics and sentiments separately.
Even film makers and directors made films with complete knowledge on the subject rather than take it in a casual manner thinking of tackling the situation if and when attacks happen. They used to take films in a responsible manner and films contained answers to all those who opposed so that they can not question them in any manner. Even politicians used to maintain their dignity and controlled their cadre and their tempers. In ‘Cameraman Gangato Rambabu’ if one stays away from controversy and analyse the script, he showed utter contempt in preparing a perfect political script.
He forgot the basic fact that one can get away with satires on political leaders but should be careful while indulging in satires on movements which will be in the hearts of people.There is always a danger of increasing the tempers and the same happened in this case. Even after including the roles of villains resembling Chandrababu and Rajasekhar Reddy, he did not continue in the same vein.He left politics and then shifted Rana Babu’s role towards Raj Thakery. Even there he did not discuss the issue in detail but just included some dialogues from some people who discuss in road side tea stalls.In this manner he hurt the sentiments of people in the movement.
Discussing politics and movements is different cup of tea. People’s movements should be discussed indepth and right from origin. Orelse shouldn’t touch them atall. With two three dialogues he tried showing Rajasekhar Reddy as good person and his opponents as villains.. Even his ‘Bolli’ dialogue is just to invite wrath of a political party.Media did not give a damn for this film or else it has many scenes which showed media in bad taste. It showed any person without proper education can become journalist and women will stoop to drinking beer. Hero slapping Brahmanandam for including masala in his news also smacks of logic.
It is as if film stars can do whatever they want but media should follow morals. Political impact on ‘Cameraman’ will scare film makers even of dreaming to make political films.
